Tennessee News

Jerri Green good news for Tennessee Jerri Green has won the Democratic nomination for governor of Tennessee. Green’s platform is pro family, good schools, available and affordable health care, and fighting climate change for our children’s future. Green will face republican senator Marsha Blackburn. The contrast between the two candidates are total opposites. Blackburn wants a Tennessee that looks and acts like Donald Trump. Green wants a Tennessee that is welcoming to all people. Green wants an inclusive Tennessee verses Blackburn who wants a 1950 Tennessee. Let Blackburn know that Donlad Trump is not Tennessee and Tennessee will not go back to the 1950’s. Good news for Tennessee Justin Pearson has won the Democratic nomination to represent the 9th Congressional District of Tennessee. The redrawn ninth district would be a challenge for Pearson but he stated he is up to the challenge. He believes the people of the 9th would be more concern with issues than the color of his skin. The 9th has been redrawn and now has more rural areas in the district. The republicans feel this is now a sure republican district after it was redrawn. All people of color who live in the district need to register to vote and go out and vote for Justin Pearson. Let the republicans know that cheating doesn’t pay in Tennessee. Young people of Tennessee save your future and vote Democratic. It’s time for Tennessee to join the modern era, no more attacking people because they are different. Tennessee makes another Jim Crow voting rule The Supreme Court of the United States under John Roberts continues to harm black voters. This time their decision to allow gerrymandering against black voters has taken an even worse turn in Tennessee. The Tennessee legislature will remove the only black majority district in Memphis and divide it into three white republican districts. Not only did the republican legislature carve up the district but went even further by not requiring local polling locations to inform residents their polling locations have changed. This will be a nightmare for black voters in the upcoming election. How can John Roberts and the Supreme Court not see this action as targeting black voters. God help Tennessee. Tennessee and Jim Crow in Memphis The state of Tennessee has joined the Jim Crow parade by redrawing their congressional districts to remove the only minority district in Tennessee. The City of Memphis had the only Democratic seat in the Tennessee congressional group. That is now a thing of the past as Tennessee republicans have divided the city into three republican districts. The NAACP has filed a lawsuit to stop the action, but it is likely to go nowhere as the U.S. Supreme Court ruled discrimination against black and other minority voters is legal in the United States. The republican candidate won the Tennessee 7th district race yesterday over Democrat Aftyn Behn by 9 percentage points. Behn’s 9 point loss was a marked change from last year’s race. The republican candidate won the 7th district by 21 %. Behn had to overcome gerrymandering and millions of dollars from outside republican groups. Even with the republican win, republicans are still feeling the heat from their bad leadership as more and more Americans are abandoning them. Let us hope that by the 2026 elections there will be more republican voters seeing what the republican party is really about. Young people who went out and voted for Behn, thank you and by the next election get more of your peers out to vote. It is your future at stake. The people of Tennessee’s 7th district will head to the polls on December 2 to elect a replacement for former republican congressman Mark Green, who retired earlier this year. The Democratic candidate for the seat is Aftyn Behn. Polling has Behn close to the republican candidate in the race. The 7th District of Tennessee has normally been a republican stronghold. Green won the last election in November 2024 with 59% of the vote. Behn, if the polling is accurate, is only a couple of points behind her republican opponent. When Behn wins, she will send a strong message to republicans in the House of Representatives in Washington. The message would be the people are fed up with your poor leadership. The republican party and Donald Trump have run America off a cliff, to benefit themselves and the super-rich. Young people it is time to get out and vote for Aftyn Behn and prove to the republican party that no district is safe, if you continue to fail the people. Tragedy in Hickman County Tennessee southwest of Nashville. The Accurate Energetic Systems plant suffered an explosion that leveled the plant and claimed the lives of all 16 workers on site at the time of the blast. The plant handled and manufactured munitions for the Department of Defense. Words cannot be stated that can describe the pain of the families of the victims and the local community. Remember Hickman County in your prayers. Donald Trump will be sending federal law enforcement agencies and the National Guard Troops to Memphis Tennessee to stop crime; these efforts have not been successful in other cities, but is likely a game plan for future takeovers of American Cities by Trump and republicans. The Memphis crime rate has been dropping over the past six years. The effort is supported by Tennessee Governor Bill Lee and Senators Blackburn and Bill Hagerty all of whom are republicans. They all seem not to care about the move being illegal, but what else would you expect from republicans. Young people you must vote out all republicans and save your futures. Tennessee republican Rep. Diana Harshbarger called Texas Rep. Al Green a boy during a recent interview with a Christian group. Boy is a racist term used by whites to demean black men. Harshbarger has no regrets for calling Green a 77year old black man a boy. Do the people in her Tennessee first district agree there will be no consequences for Harshbarger? What do the people of Johnson City, Greeneville, Kingsport, Bristol, and Morristown have to say? Tennessee State Representative, Aron Maberry, has sponsored House Bill 0622. This bill will be called Dismantling DEI Act. It will force local Tennessee governments and Institutions of higher education to only hire based on merit. The bill reinforces the status quo of hiring whites first for any job in government or educational institutions, whether they are the best qualified or not. The truly sad part of the bill is Aron Maberry is a Pastor and Small Business Owner, yet he has sponsored a bill aimed at harming anyone that is not white. Let us pray that Pastor Maberry is not putting his republican views into his sermons and leading his members away from Jesus. Perhaps this action might help the pastor see that his actions run contrary to the teaching of Jesus. If there were no racism or discrimination in the United States, the pastor’s actions could be interpreted as being fair. Unfortunately, racism and discrimination are real. Donald Trump continues his never-ending golf vacation at tax payer expense, while tornados and flooding have ravaged the South and Midwest.
