Louisiana approves new Jim Crow congressional map
The Louisiana legislature has approved a new congressional map, which eliminates a second majority black district in Louisiana. The legislature was allowed by the Supreme Court of the Confederate States of America, which said the second majority black district was discriminatory against white voters. The bill now has to go to the governor to be signed into law. The republican governor is expected to sign the bill into law. Louisiana once again uses Jim Crow to take away black voters’ rights.
Louisiana republicans and Jim Crow
Louisiana held an open meeting to discuss redrawing the new congressional map to eliminate the second majority black district in Louisiana. Black residents were out in force to demand of republican law makers not to dilute their votes. The republican law makers were not concerned about black voters. Several audience members remarked how the republicans in Louisiana were taking the state back to the dark days of Jim Crow. The black residents promised that action would be taken to respond to this dilution of black voting power. The state head of the NAACP was not allowed into the meeting. It is time for all black residents of Louisiana to register to vote and then go out and vote for Democrats. Like in the 1950’s and 1960’s black residents have to call for racism to end in Louisiana. Voting, boycotts, and protest are the weapons of black residents of Louisiana.
Louisiana voting is a mess
The State of Louisiana voting is in pure turmoil. The recent Supreme Court ruling that the second majority minority district was unconstitutional has resulted in republican lawmakers in Louisiana rescheduling voting dates. Many of these elections the good citizens of Louisiana have already been performing early voting. The citizens of Louisiana no longer are sure of what district they should be voting in. All this turmoil is the result of the Supreme Court and power-hungry Louisiana republicans putting their power grab above the people of Louisiana. The good people of Louisiana need to send a message that cheating will not be the standard in Louisiana and republicans will be voted out of office.
Speaker of the US House, Mike Johnson, did not allow Rev. Jesse Jackson’s body to lie in state at the US Capital. Johnson said, Jackson did not meet the criteria for being able to lie in state at the capital. Johnson said, the honor is reserved for past presidents, military leaders, and top government officials. The ones who did not meet the criteria and were allowed to lie in state were Billy Graham and Rosa Parks.
Donald Trump has stabbed another supporter in the back. Louisiana Senator Bill Cassidy is the latest victim of vindictive Trump. Cassidy like other Trump supporters sold his soul to Trump to look the other way with Trump’s unconstitutional abuses. Trump has decided not to support Cassidy in the upcoming republican primary in Louisiana. Trump has thrown his support behind Julia Letlow instead of Cassidy. Trump feels Letlow will beg more than Cassidy.
Young people of Louisiana, Clay Higgins is a representative who cares more about Donald Trump than the people of his district. You MUST vote out this Trump loving MAGA representative. He was the only person in the Congress to vote against the release of the Epstein Files.
Judge Eboni Rose-Johnson has dismissed a lawsuit filed by Louisiana black legislators to force Louisiana’s Attorney General republican, Liz Murrill to defend the current Congressional map. The map now has two majority minority districts. Murrill had previously defended the map, but now that a group of white voters want the map changed, so has Murrill. She now says the map is not constitutional. The case to change the map is before the United States Supreme Court. If the current map is ruled as not legal by the Supreme Court, it will end the Voting Rights Act. There will no longer be any recourse when republicans draw new maps to dilute the minority vote. Young people of Louisiana be prepared to lose your right to fair elections.
Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry pays a $900 fine for failing to disclose free trips. Landry confirmed he had taken free trips valued at more than $13,000 over the past four years. The paying of the $900 fine avoided a trial, which could have resulted in a $10,000 judgement against Landry. Rich donors continue to line the pockets of Louisiana republican politicians at the expense of the voters. Louisiana’s young voters want more than brought and paid for republican elected officials. Young people of Louisiana vote Democratic and send a message to the republicans of your state.
The United States Supreme Court will not rule on Louisiana’s redistricting case until next term. No reason was given as to why the delay took place. The delay means Louisiana will continue to have two majority black districts. The second majority black district was created after Louisiana’s prior district map was found to discriminate against black voters. Louisiana redrew the map to include a second majority black district to follow the law. The case the Supreme Court will not rule on until next term is a challenge to the second majority black district. Young people get out and exercise your right to vote. It is clear that republicans in Louisiana do not have your backs. You must register and then vote.
Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry and Donald Trump are discussing having Representative Julia Letlow challenge republican Senator Bill Cassidy in next year’s republican primary. Landry and Trump want to punish Cassidy, because they believe he is not totally behind Trump. Cassidy was one of a few republicans Senators who voted to impeach Donald Trump for the January 6th attack on the US Capital.
Speaker of the US House, Mike Johnson, plans to give billionaires tax cuts at the expense of people in his Louisiana House District. Johnson, Donald Trump, and republicans plan Medicaid cuts to help pay for their billionaire tax cuts. Medicaid cuts will be a huge problem for Johnson’s district as many of his own constituents rely on Medicaid for their health care. Johnson‘s top priority is to line the pockets of billionaires with a tax cut and his lowest priority is the people of his district and their health care needs.
Louisiana voters rejected all four constitutional amendments in the last election. The vote went against republican governor Jeff Landry and the Louisiana majority republican legislature. The proposed amendments failed as 66% of Louisiana voters felt it was a power grab by Landry and the republican legislature. This could be a wakeup call for Louisiana republicans as they may have to be more accountable to all Louisiana voters. The days of power grabs and strong-arm tactics by republicans could be coming to an end. Thank you to all the voters in Louisiana who stood up for democracy.
The United States Supreme Court is hearing a case, Louisiana v Callais, which centers around Louisiana Sixth Congressional district. The issue is that the sixth district was redrawn using a map to create a second majority African American district. A group of white voters brought the case to drop the new map with the second majority African American district. The white group won the case in federal court. African American voters in turn appealed the ruling to the Supreme Court. Louisiana has a 34% African American population but due to republican gerrymandering there was only one African American representative in Congress. The redrawn sixth district gave the opportunity for a second African American representative to be in Congress and he did win the seat.
Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, republican of Louisiana has vowed to eliminate federal district courts that do not rule in favor of Donald Trump. Johnson and other republicans in Congress will only fund federal district courts that green light Donald Trump’s illegal actions. Other courts that follow the law will be defunded and eliminated. This is another example of how Nazis took over Germany. Mike Johnson and the republicans want Trump to be a dictator and will do everything necessary to destroy democracy in America.
